October Events in Cape Town and the Western Cape

This month as the weather warms up, the event guide takes things more outdoors with events that will burn off the excess kilo's acquired during the cold months of winter. We still have time to go to the theatre and attend a conference as Cape Town's International Convention Centre.

October 12th
Definitely the Big event for Capetonians this month is the First National Bank/Cape Times Big Walk which takes place on 12 October. In its 100th year, the Big Walk is one of the major events in Cape Town that attracts thousands of participants and spectators. The walk ranges from a docile 5km walk to a massive 80km; at least you'll see all the beautiful sights on the Peninsula.

Festival of Running 3- 5th October
The Cape Town Weekend Festival of Running is an extreme running event where runners test their endurance in the 100-miler and 100km ultra marathon over a scenic 10km loop along the Atlantic Seaboard. For more info contact them on +27(0) 21 696 3058.

Fish Africa Exhibition 29-31 October
The Fish Africa Exhibition will be held at the world-class new Cape Town International Convention Centre, on the 29-31 October 2003. The 2003 Fish Africa Exhibition will take place at a key point in the industry's development, with four-year fishing rights allowing the many new entrants into the fishery a degree of stability which encourages investment in vessels and every type of equipment, from catching gear to processing machinery ashore. Claptomania 28 October- 1 November.
Maestro Mike McCullagh and his band are back in their tribute to the legendary guitarist and songwriter, Eric Clapton and the artists he has collaborated with. Get ready as they perform several of his hits in a tribute show at the Theatre on the Bay.

Offbeat Broadway 1- 11 October
The team that brought you two sell-out seasons of Offbeat Broadway, which earned them no less than four Vita nominations, is back with Offbeat Broadway 3.
The musical comedy takes a dig at 40 of the worlds well-known musicals.

Greyton Rose Fair 24-26 October
Visit the beautiful Greyton Rose Fair in Greyton at the foot of the Overberg Mountains. Experience the work of local artists, enjoy the variety of cuisine offered by local restaurants, visit the open gardens, view the exquisite blooms at the Rose Exhibit, shop at the craft market, see Miss Rose and her entourage, ride horses or just relax.

National Marine Week 13-17 October
During National Marine Week more than 800 children will get to experience marine life for the first time. Edu-functional activities, whale spotting, boat rides and trips to seal island are all great ways to introduce children to the sea, and are all part of the programme during National Marine Week. Rooibos Triathlon and Fitness Festival 3-4 October
Come along with friends and family to the Rooibos Triathlon & Fitness Festival, where you can test your fitness, or watch others test theirs in the triathlon, biathlon and Iron Kids competitions as well as the individual running and swimming events.

Outeniqua Wheels Carnival: on until 5 October.
Wheels, wheels, wheels…from bikes, trains, planes and automobiles...
to wheelchairs and wheel barrows, and human bodies, painted, and with wheels attached. Enjoy Choo-Tjoe train rides from Knysna to George with live entertainment, an Ox wagon race. The Outeniqua Chair Challenge, the only half marathon in SA for disabled athletes, and the Tour de Eden -the only 5-day cycle tour open to all classes in SA.

Foot of Africa Marathon 11 October.
The Foot Of Africa Marathon is a cross country and mountain climbing race all in one, starting in Grashoek (a farm near Napier) to over the Soetmuis Mountain, through the fynbos area, ending in Bredasdorp.
