Cape Town and its environment
provides for an immense amount of different bays and beaches.
Come2CapeTown.com provides a first “7 Best Beaches
in Cape Town”
Clifton 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th : “If only I
owned a beach house here”
Besides admiring the stunning little beach houses in Clifton,
the best reason to go to Clifton is for some tanning on
Clifton beach 1,2,3 or 4. The size of the houses originates
from the houses built by the Cape Town city council for
the soldiers returning from World War I. You would almost
say they were lucky.
Sun tanning on one of the four beaches provides for the
ultimate holiday feel, for us as well.
Of the four little sheltered bays surrounded by massive
Boulders, Clifton’s 1st is the most quiet and frequented
by the owners of the luxury apartments above it.
Clifton’s 2nd is for a mixture of all kinds and gays
Clifton 3rd is most energetic, visited by the young and
trendy and of people, trendy, gay or famous model.
Clifton 4th is the largest of the four and amonst all mentioned
above there’s family anf drineds here as well. If
you want to see and been seen, go to Clifton!
The only restaurant can be found next to the parking space
on Clifton 4th.
Tip: equip yourself with candles, white wine, french bread
dips and salad on a Friday evening on Clifton 4th at dusk
and a full moon. Don’t forget the corkscrew..
Camps Bay Beach: “The world’s best
beach in South Africa”
This was the opinion the Discovery Channel on Campsbay Beach
earlier this year. Crossing a trendy café and Palm
tree filled boulevard to encounter a lively beach is never
a bad experience. The Twelve Apostles running south from
Table Mountain tumble into the sea above the broad stretch
of white sand.
Encounter beach ball, frisbees, beach rugby and beach cricket.
After the Clifton beaches this nice, but sometimes slightly
windy beach, is one of the most trendy beaches.
Can you imagine this is were they once thought of building
the harbour?
Bloubergstrand: “world famous Table Mountain
view and surfs up”
From this beach you get the best postcard picture of Table
Mountain for which Cape Town is famous. Bloubergstrand is
situated 25 km to the north of the city and is divided into
Big Bay and Little Bay. It offers the most excellent (wind)surfing
of the beaches mentioned.
Swimming is safe opposite the life saver’s club.
Bloubergstrand is especially popular with (dog) walkers,
sun bathers, runners kite surfers and those wanting a peaceful
stroll along the beach. There are several restaurants along
the coastline with Blue Peter as a national gathering point,
if one is not having a having a braai on the beach! If you
want to explore it yourself, take the R 27 north from the
N1.
Llandudno Beach: “Your own romantic bay surrounded
by serenity”
A ten minute drive south from Camps Bay lies Llandudno called
Klein Kommetjie Baai in the old days. Situated in small
very upmarket, yet non pretentious bay underneath Little
Lion’s Head lays this serene white beach frequented
by young and old. It is also probalby the best boardsurfing
beach in this ‘sevens’, with young and old boardsurfers
and body boarders challenging the ‘Gat’ at the
right end of the beach.
On this beach you can indulge in a the perfect braai and
bring your sundowner to enjoy the magic views of the ocean.
Beware though the water is a true ‘cooling down’.
Boulders Beach: ”Black and white are colors
in fashion here”
Close to Simon’s Town lies this special strip of sand.
Boulders is Cape Town's most popular beach for some species.
A true photo picture, the sandy beach takes its name from
the many huge boulders which form many natural sea pools
and the water is slighty warmer than the on the Atlantic
coast beacause of the influence of the Indian Ocean.
On this beach it is always crowded. Winter- or summertime,
it does not matter. All dressed in black & white bikini’s
with matching black slippers. No, it is not the trend of
feminal Cape Town to wear the black & white swimming
suits, it is the colony of Jackass puinguins who live permanently
on Boulders beach. They are worth your visit, so drive care
fully!
Sandy Bay: “for Adam and Eva only”
For conservative South Africa it is indeed probably a slighlty
special beach. You can leave your bikini’s and swimshorts
at home to indulge on the nudist beach Sandy Bay. It is
an ‘unofficial’ but famous beach. Like many
such beaches, there are no direct access roads.
Turn into Llandudno from the main road and keep left to
the Sunset Rock parking area. It is a twenty minute walk
from there to Sandy Beach.
Glen Beach: A little Come2CapeTown secret is Glen
beach.
Between the trendy sandy beaches of Campsbay and Clifton
4th lies a small sandy strip where the more bohemian Capetonians
venture. No Gucci sunglasses and fast cars on the parking
lot, but a local and relaxed ‘lekker’ atmosphere.
