The summer months see cricket, and to a lesser extent football vie for attention of fans and the media. At least each newspaper has a dedicated cricket, football and rugby writer.

The football season in South Africa corresponds with that of Europe. South Africa has won the right to host the 2010 soccer World Cup -- the first to be held on the African continent. Cape Town has 2professional clubs playing in South Africa's Premier Soccer League.

Professional rugby is played for about eight months of the year in South Africa. Cape Town has several amateur clubs with professional teams like Western Province and the Stormers, playing in the Super 12.

Golf
Weather conditions are great, most of the year, courses are in good condition and the exchange rate is perfect for tourist to come down for a golf safari. It’s not a surprise: golf nowadays is the fastest growing sport in South Africa. And Ernie Ells is the local Tiger Woods.
